ESL classroom game

Launch control

Each question is one rocket part. The answer cards ride in on a conveyor, each carrying the next part. The student picks one, a robot arm swings it onto the rocket, and after the last question there is a countdown, ignition and a flight as high as the score reaches: clouds, space, the Moon, the red planet or the ringed planet.

How to play Launch control

  1. Press Play and the conveyor starts.
  2. Read the question and pick the card with the right answer: click the card or its part, or press 1 to 4, A to D, or T and F.
  3. Watch the arm fit the part, then answer the next question.
  4. After the last part: countdown and lift off.

Right and wrong answers

A right part welds on. A wrong one sputters, falls off and rolls away while the right card glows. The clock pauses between questions.

Levels and classroom ideas

Works from A1 to B2. The flight at the end gives every score a destination, which keeps weaker classes motivated.
